CHRISTMAS SALSICCIA BALLS

Nonna Elide's Christmas meatballs are juicy, flavour-packed salsiccia balls made from a mix of salsicciafärs and minced beef. They're gluten-free thanks to the polenta, which adds extra juiciness, but can easily be made with a classic breadcrumb mixture if you prefer. Seasoned with allspice and nutmeg, they're a perfect addition to the Christmas table – oven-baked or fried!

ingredients

  • 1 pack Nonna Elide Salsicciafärs Naturell (400g)
  • 500 g minced beef
  • 2 eggs
  • 0.5 dl polenta grains
  • 2 dl milk
  • 1 large onion
  • salt
  • 2 krm allspice
  • 2 krm nutmeg
  • butter for frying

How to make it

  • Bring the polenta grains and milk to the boil, stirring, until you have a soft, creamy polenta. Let cool slightly.
  • In a large bowl, mix the salsicciafärs, minced beef, polenta porridge, eggs, onion, allspice, nutmeg and salt.
  • Moisten your hands with cold water and roll the mixture into balls of your desired size.
  • Cooking in the oven: Set the oven to 200 °C. Place the meatballs on a baking tray lined with baking paper, leaving a little space between them. Bake in the middle of the oven for approx. 30 minutes, turning the balls halfway through. NOTE! Because of the salsicciafärs, the balls may still look slightly pink even when fully cooked.
  • Cooking in a pan: Fry the Christmas salsiccia balls in batches in oil or butter. Shake the pan now and then to keep them round. Fry the meatballs in batches in butter in a frying pan for approx. 8 minutes or until cooked through.
